He then became the head of Bullough, a large engineering combine, and the chairman of Electra, an investment group. He also became a successful cattle farmer at Astbury Hall near Bridgnorth, where he bred Hereford cows and won awards at the Royal Show.

He had a passion for horseracing and owned horses on the flat and over jumps. He collaborated with some of the biggest names in the turf, such as Robert Sangster and Bobby McAlpine. He also worked closely with trainer Fred Rimmel and won many races at Cheltenham and Royal Ascot. He became the champion National Hunt owner in the 1968/69 season and was elected to the Jockey Club in 1970.

He sold Astbury Hall and moved to Newbury in 1971. He retired from his business career in 1988 and moved to Monaco with his third wife. He lived there until he became ill and returned to the UK, where he died in a nursing home.
