Josiah Goecker died in a tragic shooting incident that happened on Monday, October 23, 2023, around 10 a.m. at the Alpine Apartments on Mockingbird Drive. According to reports, Josiah was off duty and visiting the leasing office when he encountered a tenant who was threatening a woman with a gun. Josiah tried to intervene and calm the situation down, but the tenant shot him multiple times in the chest.
The tenant then fled the scene and barricaded himself in his apartment. The police and SWAT team arrived shortly after and surrounded the building. They tried to negotiate with the suspect for several hours, but he refused to surrender. Around 4 p.m., they heard a gunshot from inside the apartment and entered to find the suspect dead from an apparent self-inflicted wound.
Josiah was rushed to Providence Alaska Medical Center with critical injuries. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
